Teach Your Class About Epilepsy

A New Education Resource Is Online

Now teachers and parents of children with epilepsy can help create a better understanding of the condition with a free online program.

Created by pediatric neurologist G. Dean Timmons, MD, and associate professor Beverly Timmons, EdD, EpilepsyClassroom.com offers tools and resources that help bring epilepsy into the classroom—so administrators, teachers, and students can make their schools even more welcoming.

Among the site's features:

1. Seizure First Aid
A step-by-step guide to help teachers if a student experiences a seizure at school. It also covers what comes next: how to talk to the class about it afterwards.

2. Lesson Plans
Make epilepsy an everyday part of the curriculum. With information and activities for grades preschool through 12, each lesson plan helps acquaint students with the condition.

3. Educator Awareness
For teachers and administrators, this section of the site includes tools such as how to identify seizures and their triggers as well as a downloadable presentation for faculty education.
